What happens when your sewer treatment equipment is damaged? There is a risk of contaminated water. So, when Milton-Freewater’s sewer treatment digester cracked, resulting in alarming damage to its structural integrity, the city took action to replace it. $2.1 million Oregon Lottery dollars combined with an additional $2 million from a community development grant to construct a new wastewater treatment plant.
This plant ensures the entire city’s wastewater is treated and kept from polluting water vital to Milton-Freewater. Not only does the treated water directly irrigate 670 acres of farmland, but provides clean water and working sewage treatment integral to wineries, breweries, cider mills and other area businesses that support the local economy.
