Pendleton Area Schools Participating in 13th Annual Oregon Lottery® Scratch-itSM for Schools Event

Salem, Ore., (Apr. 15, 2009) On April 15, 2009, seven public schools from the Pendleton area will participate in the Oregon Lottery®’s annual fund raising event, Scratch-it for Schools. The event will held at the Hamley’s in Pendleton and will begin at 10:30 am.

At each of the statewide events, two adults from each of the schools are partnered with two other adults from local TV and radio stations, as well as newspapers, to form a four-person team. All four team members will scratch as many Scratch-it tickets as they can, fast and furiously, while a countdown clock speeds away. At the end of the time, all cash prizes teams uncover are the school’s to keep.

“Scratch-it for Schools is a great event,” said Lottery Director Dale Penn. “With the schools, local media, and communities working together for a common goal, Scratch-it for Schools is fun and very rewarding for everyone involved. This event provides the Lottery with another opportunity to contribute to Oregon’s schools.”

Last year, the 75 public schools from across the state who took part in the Oregon Lottery’s Scratch-it for Schools event won over $86,000. Since the Scratch-it for Schools program began, over $900,000 has been awarded to the participating public schools.

All Oregon public schools were invited to enter the drawing to select participating schools for each of the seven Scratch-it for Schools events. In addition to the Pendleton event, Scratch-it for Schools were previously held in Salem on April 1, Bend on April 6, Eugene on April 8, in Medford in the morning and Klamath Falls in the afternoon on April 9, and Portland on April 14.

Since the Oregon Lottery began selling tickets on April 25, 1985, it has funded over $3 billion for public education. In total, the Lottery has earned over $6 billion for public education, state parks, watershed enhancements and economic development combined.
